Without doubt, Buro Happold is one of the world’s leading engineering consultancies. That’s why we never lose sight of the fact that people are our most valuable resource. The diversity of talent, knowledge and experience present in the practice, coupled with a huge enthusiasm for the work we do, lies at the heart of our success.

We’re proud to hold the International Investors in People accreditation, which recognises our strong commitment to training and development. In fact, we are one of the few organisations in the construction industry to receive this valued mark of approval.

Learning and development

We invest heavily in learning and development, with a proven in-house training programme that will equip you with the skills and know-how you need to work in an ever-changing world, whichever operating area (Buildings, Infrastructure or Environment) you are joining. Our wide range of construction projects and technical resources provide you with an ideal environment to learn from highly experienced senior engineers.

You will also be encouraged to undertake a three month secondment in your first year –a secondment in an area outside of your home discipline.

We see your career with us as a journey –a journey that will see you experience major projects in the UK and overseas. View an example of a training programme.

Roughly a year after Grad week we bring all the graduates back together to once again reinforce those valuable friendships made during graduate week, spend some time further developing their multi-disciplinary working and also to gain an introduction to Buro Happold the business. During this 2-day event the graduates will attend a series of sessions on disciplines other than their own, the end result giving them an insight to what these teams do.

Rewards

Because we demand a lot from our people, we offer a great deal in return. As well as a highly competitive starting salary (dependent on your degree level and location), you will receive a very handy welcome payment. There’s also a company profit related bonus and a comprehensive range of benefits, which includes 22 days’ holiday (rising to 25 days after two years’ service), pension scheme, life assurance, interest-free season ticket loans and income protection. We’ll also pay for membership of two professional institutions as part of our commitment to supporting you as you work towards chartership.

More than that, you can tailor your benefits package to suit you. You can choose to buy extra holiday (up to 5 days), make additional pension contributions, take out private Health Cover or dental insurance, even get financial help with childcare. It really is up to you.
