STEP 1 - Interested in working at Buro Happold?

So, what’s it like to work with Buro Happold? What are the people like? Who makes the coffee? Do I get to work on projects overseas? For the answers to such important questions, take a look at what some of our latest crop of graduates have to say about working with us.

STEP 2 - Apply Online

To apply for a graduate or student placement/internship position, the first thing you need to do is apply online. These forms have been designed to ensure we have all the information we need to progress your application. Whilst we accept and shortlist applications throughout the year, we strongly encourage you to apply as soon as possible as there’s a limit to the number of positions we have available.

We understand that you may find it difficult to choose which of our specific disciplines to apply for. Our application form therefore enables you to:
– apply for posts under one of our three operating areas Buildings, Infrastructure, Environment
– apply for posts within specific disciplines
– choose the location where you’d like to work

If you wish to apply to work in a specific discipline you will be given a list of relevant locations to choose from.

STEP 3 - Shortlisting in progress

Once you’ve completed your application form it will be forwarded to the relevant managers for review. And rather than keep you waiting around, will advise you of any updates on your application as soon as possible. You will also be emailed a username and password for the Buro Happold Application System, so that you can keep a close eye on your application’s progress.

STEP 4 - Online preferred work style questionnaire

As part of our selection process we ask all candidates selected to attend a graduate interview/assessment event to complete an on-line questionnaire about their preferred work style. Answers provided will help the interview panel to identify areas to explore further at the interview stage. Once you have completed the questionnaire details of times and dates for interview will be issued.

STEP 5 - Invited to Interview/Assessment Event

Once you have completed your online questionnaire details of times and dates for interview will be issued.

STEP 6 - Interview scheduled

If you are invited for interview, remember: it’s an opportunity, not an interrogation! It’s as much a chance for us to sell Buro Happold to you, as it is for you to introduce and sell yourself to us. You will also be able to spend time with graduates who joined us the previous year, so you can hear from the horse’s mouth what life at Buro Happold is really like!

You will be asked to bring along examples of work developed during your university course. We find this is a great way to get you talking about what you have been doing and for us to ask questions. Above all, we want to see and hear your passion and enthusiasm, your desire and ambition.

STEP 7 - Offer made

Congratulations! You will be sent details of our offer of employment.

STEP 8 - Start date agreed

The usual starting date for graduates is during September, some graduates start a little earlier and some a little later, however we want to try and ensure that everyone is aligned with the graduate development programme and is available to attend the Grad Week event which usually takes place during November each year.

Student Placements generally run for a period of 8-12 weeks between June and September although alternative dates and year placements are also offered.

STEP 9 - Welcome to Buro Happold

Once we have received your signed contract and supporting documentation we will send you some more information about who to report to on your first day of employment and what paperwork to bring with you. You will also be sent a welcome DVD which will give you a great insight to our business. Find out more about what you can expect from life as a graduate at Buro Happold.
